Random Images

I'm taking a break right now. Not a scheduled break or anything but just a small break to recover from all these stupid invoices I've been processing. Being back at work is not very much fun. In fact, it's kind of boring. I'm kind of boring.
In fact, I'm so bored I'm just going to insert a whole load of nice pictures here for you to look at. This blog seriously deserves some sort of award. :)

Interview With A Jackass

I just drank THE nicest mouthful of Yorkshire Tea I’ve ever had. It honestly warmed every bone in my body. Maybe I’m just appreciating it more because I haven’t had a half decent cuppa in far too long. At home I have been surviving on PG Tips (I bought about five boxes when it was half-price) and now I’ve started work again (after a great deal of confusion and mixed-up-dates) and I discovered an enormous box of Yorkshire Tea-bags in the kitchen cupboard. I am very happy. Now, I know I’m meant to be taking a ‘break’ from work (in the couple of months sense) to study but now I’ve started again and even though it’s only the first day, I think I’m really going to enjoy it. I will no longer complain about work experience children and fat employees who break chairs yet don’t pull their substantial weight.
Anyway, I have tomorrow off! Can you believe that? So I guess fulltime work starts properly on Monday and today is just sitting around and seeing how good my stationary is (the hole puncher is out of this world.)
When I sat down to write this post, I had intended to write about my favourite children’s authors. (I’ve been thinking that my blog will be mostly to do with music and writing from now on; enough of the boring personal stuff. ) But now I’ve just talked for a paragraph or two about drinking tea and working…  work makes me tired, tea keeps me awake but whatever, is this even making sense?! I didn’t get much sleep last night and my dad came back from holiday and I was SO pleased to see him. But now the excitement/tiredness of yesterday is over and I really need to find a point to this post before it turns out to be crappy personal stuff again. OK… I think I’ll write about the children’s authors sometime in the near future (when I have the time and patience to actually write something GOOD) but for now I want to talk about the news. LOL. Feel free to navigate away from this page.
I saw this interview on Sky News a couple of lunchtimes ago and there was this disgraced American who was a Lord in Britain or something. He owned the Daily Telegraph but then he got sent to prison which he wasn’t too happy about and he did THE most surreal interview ever. It was with Adam Boulton and the guy (Conrad Black) actually said to him, “Stop being a jackass.” I was stunned. It was hilarious. He just carried on insulting people and things and he really didn’t give a crap. It was hilarious. I’ll post the video below if you want to watch it. :) (You really should watch it!)

Another news story that caught my eye (and made me kind of sad) was that President Assad (Syrian dude) had agreed to a ceasefire over the Muslim festival of Eid and that the majority of the opposition groups also agreed to cease fire. This made me really sad. Both sides have just been killing each other and now they stop to celebrate Eid? Obviously I’m happy that they’ve stopped fighting but it just made me think… what’s the point in having a celebration when families are torn apart and struggling? People will have lost their fathers and brothers and they’re expected to be happy about Eid? And then once the festivities are over, once everyone’s done celebrating, are they just going to pick up their guns again and start shooting each other? It’s like that German/Allies Christmas football match where they got out of the trenches, played a match and the next day started fighting all over again. It’s sad, really. And I wish that both sides would see how pointless all the bloodshed really is. Why can’t people sit down and talk?

Why I Love The Script

As most of you guys who read my blog already know, I only really 'got into' The Script when Danny was a judge on The Voice UK. Before that momentous occasion, I had only heard three of their songs; 'For The First Time', 'If You Ever Come Back' and 'Breakeven'. And the only reason I'd heard 'Breakeven' was because there's a thing in business called breakeven (where costs = revenues...lol). But since then, I have listened to all three of their albums over and over again and I can honestly say I never tire of their songs.

I know that people may think it's a whole load of boring love stuff but it really isn't. A lot of their songs are about separation and stuff but there are tonnes of really good inspirational songs. 'Hall of Fame' got to number one but you know, that's not the best they've done. I love that they write all their own songs (Danny and Mark are awesome writers) and I like that the focal point isn't always the singing.

The lyrics in 'If You Ever Come Back' are so lovely. It's kind of homely and beautiful and heartfelt and I love it!

Then there's 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'... the inspiration behind that song was truly beautiful.

And the opening music for 'Breakeven'... it's instantly recognisable and so lovely. This was their biggest hit and I never used to like it but now... it's grown on me (reminds me less of business lessons in room 107... LOL)

These are a few of their their actual singles but the rest of their songs are just as good if not better. Exit Wounds, Rusty Halo, Live Like We're Dying, Long Gone & Moved On... oh I love them! I promise to post a more informative post about these guys some time in the near future!

Meanwhile... buy these!

Back to work on Thursday... slightly earlier than I expected!!! LOL.

Neglected

I know my blog has been seriously neglected and the content is kind of crap but... oh well! I've fallen out of love with 'One More Night' now... sorry Maroon 5! Lawson and 'Standing in the Dark' have kinda taken over! LOL. You can watch it here! :)

I swear my next post will be better! :)

Awesome Collaborations

PRINCESS OF CHINA ( Coldplay featuring Rihanna)

We’ve had Princess of China around for ages but seeing it performed at the Paralympics Closing Ceremony just sort of reinforced it and it is definitely one of my favourite Coldplay songs. I kind of fall in and out of love with Charlie Brown, Viva la Vida, Paradise and Yellow but this one always makes me smile when I hear it. OK, so it’s not as deep as The Scientist (which is my all time favourite) but somehow that kind of adds to the appeal. And from the Rihanna side, almost all of the time, I prefer it when she collaborates with other people rather than does solo singles. Like Only Girl and What’s My Name came out at around about the same time and I just thought What’s My Name with Drake was so much better. All of her songs are like that. We Found Love (ft. Calvin Harris) versus Where Have You Been is a no-brainer for me. And her all time biggest hit was Umbrella which as we all know was with Jay-Z. And it’s the same story with Princess of China: the sound of her voice doesn’t annoy me, it actually makes me smile. And with Coldplay… it’s like perfection.

GOOD TIME (Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen)

I think Carly Rae Jepsen is Canadian, right? Anyway, before her huge #1 hit aka Call Me Maybe, I had never even heard of her. And when I saw that song at the top of the charts I was like ‘Huh?’… ‘Who?’ but then I heard it and I loved it. It’s sort of random, kind of meaningless but just one of those songs that makes you smile and sing along (no matter how bad your singing is.) As for Owl City… I thought they’d fallen back into the masses. Fireflies was the last I heard of them and though that song is firmly in my Top 25 Most Played, I sort of forget about them. Now they come out and do this awesome hook-up with Carly Rae Jepsen and it’s brilliant! I don’t even know the names of the guys in that band but the main one’s voice is so unique…I love it. The best thing about this single is that it’s not like one of the artists is just doing the chorus or having one verse, it’s a PROPER  group effort and it is such a feel-good song.

HALL OF FAME (The Script featuring Will.I.Am)

I was insanely excited when I first heard this song. It just came up on Capital FM and it’s brilliant! The funny thing is that this hook-up probably wouldn’t have even happened if it wasn’t for The Voice UK but I’m so glad it did! The video… sort of predictable, kind of clichéd, you know, the boxing and the showing everyone you’re perfect with the ballet but the lyrics are awesome which kind of overrules everything else. I love Danny O’Donoghue’s voice, it’s kind of raw if you get what I mean and Will.I.Am sort of adds ‘coolness’ or ‘dopeness’ which makes it great. I’m glad it’s different to the kind of soft-rock/love genre that The Script usually follow, what with The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, Breakeven, Nothing, Long Gone & Moved On… it’s more upbeat, more inspirational. It’s like Live Like We’re Dying which most people usually associate with the American guy who sang it, though it was The Script who wrote it. Anyway, enough of that, Hall of Fame makes me REALLY excited about The Script’s new album and I cannot wait to hear what else they’ve got!

PAYPHONE (Maroon 5 ft Wiz Khalifa)

OK, I know that Payphone is sort of older than the previous two but I still think it’s sort of recent. It’s still in the charts, right?! Anyway, I think Payphone totally trumps Maroon 5’s last collaboration (which I downloaded) and that was Moves Like Jagger (featuring Christina Aguilera). I didn’t like that one much at all because I’m not really a fan of Christina, only her huge Beautiful hit. Apart from that one song… she’s just kind of annoying. And I know people may have heart attacks when they read this, but the whole Mick Jagger idolisation annoys the fuck out of me. I’ve never been a fan of the Rolling Stones and when he did T.H.E with Will.I.Am and J-Lo, he sort of ruined the whole song. Anyway, so Payphone is like a million times better than Moves Like Jagger. I think the video is pretty good too, though I never understand why he steals Wiz Khalifa’s car in the first place OR why he leaves the girl behind. But the vocals are great and I love Wiz Khalifa’s part too (for once I can actually make sense of the rapping.) Definitely one of the best collaborations this year.

Woo hoo!

I am in THE best mood ever today! Seriously, I must be the happiest person in the world! OK, I’ve had this really crappy fraudster-y account on my desk for the past three months and I’ve kind of been avoiding it. Like every time my boss heads my way I literally hide it. And this morning I decided to face my fears and you know what? It wasn’t so bad after all. It makes vague sense now and I’ve kind of talked around it and although this sandwich shop/newsagent dude should seriously be in prison for tax evasion, everything’s good!
Sorry, but I just had to express my joy and it seems mean to do that in real life when everyone else had Monday blues.
Oh, the Paralympics Closing ceremony was AMAZING! OK, so I only watched the Coldplay part but whatever …they were awesome! Anyway, gotta run… the Work Experience kid can’t even switch his computer on… lol.
